Did you plan to have a plan?
“By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.” - Benjamin Franklin
It’s time to take those health and fitness dreams from last week’s challenge and build a plan! Be as detailed as possible. Don’t start the plan yet! Take the whole week to think about your dreams and create a plan on how to achieve them. Remember the old saying that a trip of 1000 miles begins with the first step? This plan is your first step. There may be many updated versions of this plan as you learn and progress, so don’t try to make it perfect; just write it down in writing.
Exercising more and eating less is not a plan. Writing down exactly how much time you are willing to dedicate to exercise each week is the beginning of a plan. Go to your calendar and actually block off time each day for movement. Your plan could be as simple as a daily walk. It might be as complex as an athlete training for the Olympics. The important part is to take the time to actually put a health and fitness plan together BEFORE you begin.
Part of my goal a few years ago was to ride in the 350-mile Tour de Nebraska cycling event. I hadn’t ridden a bike in over 30 years. I NEEDED A PLAN! I couldn’t just show up and expect to succeed! We broke it down into weekly and daily training goals. I trained for 90 days, lost almost 30 pounds, and had the time of my life! I now have a life-long passion for cycling.
This week's challenge is to write a plan to achieve your health goals. Be as detailed as you can, and remember that this plan will change over time. Perfection is not the purpose!
Good luck with the challenge; see you next week.
